Some states require licensing and uphold specific standards regarding mold inspection, testing, and remediation. Unfortunately, North Carolina is not one of these states. The ACAC is an organization that seeks to standardize the industry and ensure that those providing these services have the knowledge and experience to do the job right. Certified Indoor Air is one of the few mold inspection companies in North Carolina that is certified and meets the stringent standards set forth by the ACAC, including rigorous testing and continuing education coursework to maintain certification.
While it is already illegal in many states, the ACAC has recommended national legislation to protect homeowners from the conflict of interest arising from companies performing mold testing and mold remediation services.
1) Mold testing and microbial investigation, assessment, remediation, abatement, and consulting services shall be performed by individuals who are certified by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) or another national, non-profit certifying body which:
a) is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB) and/or the American National Standards Institute under ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024, and
b) is wholly independent of training organizations, membership organizations, and industry trade associations.
2) Individuals shall not conduct mold or microbial investigations, assessments, or consultations for one year on projects for which they have conducted remediation or abatement services.
3) Individuals shall not conduct mold or microbial remediation or abatement activities for one year on projects for which they have completed investigations or assessments.
When a mold remediation company comes to your home to inspect, they are invested in finding mold and selling you their remediation services. Our company performs thorough, professional mold inspection and testing services only. This way, YOUR best interest remains our top priority. If we find no sources of significant or dangerous mold growth after our inspection and testing are complete, we will recommend that no remediation is necessary. If we do find areas that need to be addressed with remediation, we can provide a written report with recommendations and protocols required to resolve your issue, nothing more.
Secondly, if you have already had remediation work done on your home, how do you know if the problem is actually resolved? Many sources of water intrusion and mold lie hidden behind walls, in ventilation systems, attics, under carpets, etc. It is crucial to have independent mold testing done post-remediation to ensure that your remediator a) used proper containment, not cross-contaminating your entire home, making the situation worse than before, and b) did a thorough and complete job removing the source of the problem. This documentation can be precious if you work with your home insurance company.
Our licensed professional team aims to provide our clients with the most accurate and unbiased information possible. Your health and safety will always be our priority, guaranteed.
